Fall 2025 Registration is Open!

Advance in Scouting by Earning Merit Badges at the DeVos Learning Center

Are you a young adventurer seeking to embrace the values of responsibility, community, and leadership? Join with other Scouts at the DeVos Learning Center at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum to complete core requirements for citizenship badges that will allow you to earn the rank of Eagle Scout and become an active citizen.

As the only Eagle Scout to serve as president, the lessons that Gerald Ford learned during his youth in scouting—self-discipline, teamwork, and moral and patriotic values—would define his life of public service.

Today, these lessons are brought to life through Ford’s remarkable career in no-cost merit badge programs offered at the DeVos Learning Center. Join us for:

Citizenship in the World

Complete an Eagle-required citizenship badge and learn about different cultures, governments and global issues with President Ford as a guide. Scouts will gain an appreciation of their global citizenship by exploring the values, traditions, and concerns of people in other countries, and will become aware of their responsibilities beyond their own nation’s borders.

Scouts will complete this worksheet before attending the class.

Citizenship in the Nation

Make progress toward becoming an Eagle Scout by earning this badge in one of Michigan’s premier civic spaces. Scouts will learn about the foundations of American Government, including the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, and the three branches of government—all exemplified by President Ford’s lifetime of public service.

Citizenship in the Community

Before he was President, Gerald Ford learned what it meant to be an active citizen in his community. Scouts will earn this Eagle-required merit badge by learning what “self-government” means. Together, Scouts will explore how active citizens participate in local government to solve problems together and make lives better for themselves and their neighbors.

Combo Class: Citizenship in the Nation & American Heritage

This class allows Scouts to earn both the Citizenship in the Nation and American Heritage badges.
