Betty Ford transformed the role of First Lady in the 1970’s by speaking candidly about issues once considered private or taboo, from addiction and breast cancer to women’s rights. Her honesty and compassion sparked national conversations that changed attitudes and saved lives. Through the Betty Ford Center and her lifelong advocacy, she left a message of courage, empathy, and hope that continues to inspire generations.
Created in partnership with WGVU Public Media and the Ford Presidential Museum, this series of short video clips takes students on a virtual field trip to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum, where they will learn more about the life and legacy of the iconic First Lady, Betty Ford.
