Unified Champion Schools
Field trils designed to help all students engage with the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum
Discover President Ford
The Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum invites Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools to experience a field trip built around leadership, civic responsibility, service, and inclusion.
Students will explore the life and legacy of President Gerald R. Ford, whose example reminds us that every person can contribute to a stronger community. Students will learn how President Ford’s character—shaped by family, athletics, and public service —guided him during pivotal moments in American history. Through engaging exhibits and guided learning opportunities, students will encounter themes that connect to the Unified Champion Schools' mission: respect for every individual, teamwork across differences, courage in challenging moments, and the power of service. We will also cover President Ford's historic signing of Public Law 94-142 in 1975, now known as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Field trips can be tailored to support classroom learning, student leadership development, and service-focused conversations. Whether your group is exploring presidential history, preparing for a Unified event, or strengthening a culture of belonging, the Museum will help students discover how the values of integrity, teamwork, and inclusion can help people lead with purpose—today and in the future.
